Agartala: A local court of Khowai on Wednesday sent a 27-year-old woman to 14 days judicial custody after being arrested on the charge of throwing acid on her boyfriend allegedly for refusing to marry her in Belcherra village, about 16 km away from Khowai town.
The victim Soumen Santhal (30) is stated to be critical and shifted to Agartala Govt Medical College (AGMC) hospital. The doctors here said that the victim has received injuries on his respiratory tract besides, nose and eyes in an acid attack.
The accused lady identified as Binata Santhal (27) admitted the crime and told police that she had affairs with Soumen for more than eight years. She was allegedly ignored by the victim for the past two years and recently, Soumen has developed a relationship with another girl, which she could not tolerate and threw acid on him.
She claimed they were in love since their school days. While Soumen completed his higher secondary she dropped out of class VIII in the same school in the village in 2012. Then the duo had left the village and reached Pune where the boy asked the girl to work and support his higher education, she stated.
“I started working as a maid in different houses in a colony and Soumen completed his graduation. He returned back in March 2018 and left me in Pune. For three months after returning Soumen had stopped contacting me and I had to come back in August that year in search of him but did not trace Soumen in the village,” she claimed.
Later she had moved to Ranchi and started working in a health training centre.
Recently, she got to know that Soumen returned back to the village and last month returned back home but Soumen had allegedly managed to flee from home in her presence. During Durga puja, the girl found him at home and asked him to marry her, to whom he denied and on Oct 26 last she threw acid on Soumen at his residence.
Based on the complaint of the victim’s brother, police arrested Binata and the court sent her to jail. (UNI)
