3 soldiers trapped, 2 rescued as avalanche hits Army post in Ladakh

Srinagar: Three soldiers were buried under snow while two others have been rescued after an avalanche, triggered by heavy snowfall, hit a forward Army post at Batalik sector in Ladakh region.
 

Defence Ministry spokesperson Colonel Rajesh Kalia told UNI that unprecedented snowfall has triggered multiple avalanches near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir valley and Ladakh region.

He said an avalanche hit a forward Army post at Batalik sector in Ladakh region. “Five soldiers, who were on guard at the post, were buried under several feet of snow,” he said, adding a search operation was launched immediately to rescue the trapped soldiers.

Col Kalia said two of the five trapped soldiers were rescued while the search operation is still going on to find the remaining three soldiers. “The soldiers were immediately taken to a hospital,” he added. (UNI)
