5-member Rohingya family held in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: Following an intelligence alert that a huge number of Rohingya refugees are making a beeline for Kerala, the State Police has apprehended a five-member family of the ethnic group of Myanmar's Rakhine province, at Vizhinjam here.
The police took the custody of the Rohingya family, who reached Vizhinjam from the Central Railway Station here where they arrived in Hyderabad-Trivandrum Sabari Express on Monday night, police sources said.
 
The family including two children were identified as Tayub (35), his wife Safia Kathum (27), their six-month old child, Tayub's brother Irshad (25) and Safia's brother Anvarsha (11).
 
The Vizhinjam police took them into the custody on Tuesday as the Rohingya family reached Vizhinjam in an auto-rickshaw from the Central Railway Station.The members of family, except the children, were holding the refugee cards issued in Hyderabad by UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
 
The family came from the refugee camp in Hyderabad and steps are being taken to send back there, police sources added.Though the police interrogated them, no evidence of any sinister intention was proved. They will be sent back to Hyderabad accompanied by the police, the sources said.
 
On Thursday last, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh also cautioned about the Rohingya plan to move with their family to Kerala.
 
Earlier, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) issued warning to its units in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka about the Rohingya's plan to move Southern States of India, especially in 14 trains connecting north-eastern states.
 
The list of trains include, the Santragachi-Chennai Central Antyodaya Express, Howrah-Kanyakumari Express, Guwahati-Trivandrum Superfast Express, Shalimar-Trivandrum Express, Silchar-Thiruvananthapuram expresses, the Shalimar-Chennai Express, the Howrah-Chennai trains, the Howrah-Cape Express, Howrah-Thiruchirapally Express, the Guwahati-Tambaram and the Dibrugarh-Tambaram Express.(UNI)
