Agartala: A 53-yrs old mother, employed with Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Shila Rani Das passed the Madhyamik exam this year along with two of her daughters who passed higher secondary on Wednesday under Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE).

The Covid19 pandemic has appeared to be the blessing of Shila’s family, as lockdown and home confinement encouraged Shila and her daughters to get involved in study for the board exam.

The restricted daily routine and sheer commitment yielded good results and both the daughters and mother came out with flying colours.

Widow Shila, a resident of Milan Sangha area of Agartala and working as Group D in AMC, which is her sole source of income, had left school in 1994 because of poverty.

Meantime she was married to a daily wage earner who had also died a few years back after prolonged ailments.

Shila has been aspiring to clear Madhyamik but her family burden was the main obstacle. After passing Madhyamik her elder daughter Rajashree Das got married and now has a seven years old son. Both mother and daughter were aspiring to pass Madhyamik and higher secondary respectively.

While Shila appeared for Madhyamik, Rajashree and her sister Jayasree Das wrote higher secondary. Three of them have passed the examinations with good scores.

Happy with the success Rajashree told media, “I am very proud that I could succeed in the exams and my elderly mother could witness it in her lifetime. I could not invest much time in studies due to my home engagement but I could manage to clear the exam which is a big achievement for our family”.

“When we were preparing for the higher secondary, we encouraged her to appear for Madhyamik. She accepted and did very well,” she added. (UNI)
