Chandigarh: The Haryana government on Sunday announced imposition of a complete seven-day lockdown in the state from May 3.

“Complete lockdown declared in Haryana for 7 days from May 3, Monday,” Health Minister Anil Vij tweeted in Hindi.

Earlier on Friday, the state government had announced a weekend lockdown in Panchkula, Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, Rohtak, Karnal, Hisar, Sirsa and Fatehabad districts to fight the surging cases of coronavirus.

In the Friday’s orders, a government spokesperson had said that the residents must stay indoors during the lockdown period. “No person shall leave their homes or shall move on foot or by vehicle or travel or stand or roam around on any road or public places during this period,” the weekend lockdown order read.

Notably, Haryana registered its biggest single-day rise of 125 deaths due to Covid-19 on Saturday, raising the toll to 4,341, while 13,588 fresh cases took the state’s caseload to 5,01,566. (UNI)
