AAP to campaign against BJP in UP polls

AAP to campaign against BJP in UP polls
, Monday, 9 January 2017 (13:34 IST)
Lucknow: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will not contest the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections but its leaders would campaign against the BJP in the state. Senior AAP leaders will hold public meetings and rallies in the state against the saffron party over 'demonetisation and unfulfilled promises' after February 4. “The propaganda against the BJP was started before the elections to highlight the Rs 8 lakh-crore scam behind its demonetisation decision but following the announcement of Assembly poll dates by the Election Commission, all the party leaders and workers got engaged in campaigning.

Once the elections in Punjab and Goa get over on February 4, the leaders will be addressing public meetings in the state,” AAP spokesperson Vaibhav Maheshwari said here today. On December 18, the AAP convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at the public meeting held in Lucknow, announced that he would carry out an anti-BJP campaign across all over the state during the Assembly elections. Asked whether the anti-BJP campaign would benefit the other political parties, he said the BJP-led Central government had fooled the people through demonetisation to cover up the debts of its industrialist friends. While the Samajwadi Party (SP) patronises ‘goonda raj’, corruption remains an issue in the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). “But the dictatorship of the BJP has become a problem for the country.

If not stopped now, in the coming years, it will become unstoppable and the people will face more difficulties,” he added. The party plans to mobilise all the available resources with it in its campaign during elections. All the party volunteers would be engaged to reach out to people and explain the alleged scam behind demonetisation, he added. Mr Maheshwari said that the campaigning would be done as per the election schedule for the state. "We would be reaching out to the people in the assemblies which were going to the elections first.

Through different mediums we would tell the people why they should not vote for the BJP," he said. During its campaigning, the AAP would also be focusing on the social media front to spread its message against the BJP. For it a state-level Communication Cell had been formed which would supervise its campaign on the social media, he added. “There are lakhs of subscribers who follow AAP in social media. To make use of this, a social media campaign will be carried out extensively against the BJP,” he said. (UNI)
