It seems, disapproval to Narendra Modi's prime minister candidature during 2013-14 is going to cast LK Advani dearly. The old guard of BJP was all set to become NDA's presidential candidate but Modi surprized everyone by announcing the name of an almost obscure Ramnath Kovind.

Kovind is Governer of Bihar presently and he is known for being a Dalit leader. Thus BJP has also put forth its case for a party for Dalits. Kovind has been member of Rajya Sabha twice during 1994 to 2006 and has been president of BJP Anusuchit Jaati Morcha.

On monday, BJP President Amit Shah announced the name of Kovind. He said that Congress president Sonia Gandhia and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have also been notified.

Many names were floating for the coveted President seat including Sumitra Mahajan, Sushma Swaraj, Murli Manohar Joshi and even RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, not to mention LK Advani. But a dark horse eventually won the race!
