After student’s suicide, TN passes Bill in Assembly seeking NEET exemption; AIADMK stages walk out

Chennai: A day after a young medical aspirant committed suicide, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Monday passed a Bill in the State Assembly seeking to permanently exempt from the State from the purview of NEET exams and allow medical admissions based on Plus-2 marks, amid a walk out by the Opposition DMK.

When the House assembled for the day, Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami (AIADMK) sought to raise and issue, but he was denied permission as a Bill against NEET will be tabled in the House and sought the full cooperation of the Opposition.

When Mr Palaniswami, cited the suicide of student Dhanush at Mettur yesterday and sought to know what happened to the DMK's promise of scrapping NEET after coming to power, the House witnessed heated exchanges after which the AIADMK members staged a walk out as the reply as not satisfactory.

Later, talking to reporters outside the Assembly premises, Mr Palaniswami totally blamed the ruling DMK for confusing the students with the promise of exempting NEET resulting in the suicide of student Dhanush.

Since the DMK has not failed to honour in election promise on exempting NEET, the AIADMK members staged a walk out, he added. (UNI)
