Srinagar: Pilgrimage to the holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas has been suspended from both shortest Baltal and traditional Pahalgam routes due to heavy rains, just a day after the annual yatra commenced. “The pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine has been temporarily suspended due to heavy rains on both the routes since early this morning,” official sources told UNI.

They said the yatris heading towards Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps should first check the status of the yatra with the control room or helpline set up by the SASB before starting off. "Pilgrims, who had left Cave shrine for Baltal base camp early this morning after paying obeisance and having night stay there, were also stopped," they added. On the first day of the annual yatra, over 6000 pilgrims, braving bad weather paid obeisance at the holy cave shrine amid tight security yesterday. (UNI)
