New Delhi: BJP president Amit Shah has appointed Nityanand Rai as the new chief of party's Bihar unit while North East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari will be the new president of the party's Delhi unit. The 45-year-old actor-turned-politician Tiwari is considered BJP's prominent 'purabiya' face, who has a huge following among the migrant Bhojpuri speaking voters from Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh in the national capital.

The assignment for Mr Tiwari seems to be in utmost urgency to revive the party's sagging image in Delhi. BJP is out of power in the capital for last 18 years since 1998. Mr Rai has represented Hajipur assembly constituency in Bihar assembly winning elections since 2000 till he was elected to Parliament from Ujiarpur Lok Sabha seat in 2014. Mr Rai, known for doing plain speaking, was critical of BJP's national leadership’s handling of the November 2015 polls in Bihar which BJP had lost to JD(U)-RJD-Congress alliance badly. (UNI)
