Shimla: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today flagged off the first low cost flight under 'Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik' (UDAN) on Shimla-Delhi air route from Shimla airport terminus, here. Addressing the occasion, Mr Modi said the word UDAN indicates that it would make air travel accessible to common people.

Echoing the slogan of inclusive development of 'Sabhka Sath Sabka Vikas', Mr Modi coined a new slogan 'Sab Uden Sab Jude'. He advised the aviation companies to focus on Nanded Sabha, Amritsar Sahib and Andandpur Sahib airport routes which would help them make their operation viable.

The Prime Minister said that Sikh pilgrimage across the world would benefit from this route in the region. "Very few people know that during the World War II, a number of airstrips sprung up. Many were specially built in the border areas, however, they were seldom utilised by any government," he said.

Mr Modi said that tourism is one of the fastest growing sectors in the world. With the introduction of UDAN, Shimla airport, which remained cut off for many years on the airmap, would again feature prominently on it. (UNI)
