Srinagar: More than ten state government employees have been terminated from service for their alleged involvement in anti-national activities during the protests which erupted since July 9, after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani and two other militants in an encounter in Anantnag. Subsequent violence left 86 people, mostly youths, dead and several thousand injured in security force and police action in the valley, where about 10,000 alleged stone-pelters and separatists were arrested. However, about half them have been released while about 500 were booked under Public Safety Act (PSA).
Official sources said after receiving information that some employees, including from the education department, were actively participating in the protests and inciting others in the valley, government asked intelligence agencies to prepare a list of such employees. They said the intelligence agencies, including from state police, have prepared a list of about 40 employees who are either directly involved in the violence or inciting others. About half-a-dozen employees have also been arrested and booked under PSA.
Sources said the government has now terminated the services of about a dozen employees, including from education department, which was affected most as all educational institutions remained closed since the eruption of unrest in the valley. Action against other employees will follow, sources said. In the 90s also, services of some government employees besides police personnel were terminated for helping militants or participating in anti-national activities. (UNI)
