Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh): Seven workers died due to suffocation while they were cleaning the giant oil tanker in the Ambati oil factory located in G. Ragampet area near Peddapuram, 32 kms from here on Thursday.
It is stated that the tanker was being de-oiled for the past two days for annual maintenance and seven workers who went down to clean the empty tank died of suffocation due to inhaling of some poisonous gases emanated from inside.
The fellow workers could notice it quite after some time when their colleagues did not come out within the stipulated time.
Since poisonous gases are emanating, the workers broke open the tanker with JCB machines and brought out the bodies.
Peddapuram police rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies to Government General Hospital here for post-mortem amidst loud protests from the fellow workers and the family members of the deceased.
A case was registered.
The deceased workers were identified as Mochangui Krishna, Mochangi Narasinga, Mochangi Sagar, Kunthadu banjo babu, Kurra Ramarao , Kattamuri Jagadeesh and Prasad.
As the situation is tense with the workers agitating blaming the management for the tragedy, Peddapuram DSP Sunkara Muralimohan is camping at the spot and holding discussions with the leaders along with the revenue officials to restore peace in the area, police added. (UNI)
