New Delhi: Former Bihar Governor and the ruling combine NDA's presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind today participated at the International Day for Yoga celebrations and performed asanas here in the national capital. "Everyone should do yoga," a smiling Mr Kovind told reporters and went onto add, "We are all here to do yoga". Enthusiastically joining the yoga admirers, including dignitaries, the 72-year-old low-profile Dalit leader was present at the venue for about 40 minutes.
The election of a former Rajya Sabha MP as the next President is certain, given the numbers in favour of the BJP-led NDA. Moreover, a number of regional parties like Biju Janata Dal and Telangana Rashtra Samithi have already extended support to him, even as the Congress, Left parties and other Opposition parties would be meeting here in the capital tomorrow to decide their strategy. The CPI (M)-led Left parties have already hinted about their intent to field a candidate. (UNI)
Anna Hazare, nonagenarian Yoga exponents participate in Yoga Day
Bengaluru: Veteran Gandhian and social worker Anna Hazare, 98 year-old Yoga exponent Mrs Tavofortune Linch from New York, 96 year-old Ms Amma Nanammal from Tamil Nadu were among thousands of people who participated in the Third International Yoga Day celebrated at Sree Kanteerava Stadium here today.
Union Minister Ananth Kumar, Legislative Assembly Speaker K B Koliwad and Legislative Council Chairman D H Shankaramurthy, Ministers Roshan Baig, Dr G Parameshwar, K J George, K R Ramesh Kumar, T B Jayachandra, Ramalinga Reddy, D K Shivakumar, Basavarajraya Reddy, H Anjeneya, Tanvir Sait, Dr Sharan Prakash Patil, Krishna Byregowda, M Krishnappa, Pramod Madhwaraj, Mayor G Padmavathi were among others who participated.
Participants performed various Yoga asanas under the guidance of Vachananda Swamiji for more than four hours. At ASC Centre and College more than 2000 Army Officers and Jawans performed Yoga to mark the celeb ration of the International Yoga Day. The Day was celebrated at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan with hundreds of people performing Yoga under the guidance of Yoga guru Kamara Reddy. Celebrations were also held in various parts of the State.
Sushma celebrates Int'l Yoga Day with diplomats
New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today celebrated the International Yoga Day with the diplomats from different countries here. Speaking on the occasion organsied at the Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra, Ms Swaraj said Yoga does not belong only to India, but to the whole world.
She also appreciated the role played by diplomatic community in making the Day a huge success. The diplomatic community also participated in the Yoga programme and performed Asanas on the occasion. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in a mass Yoga demonstration event in Lucknow. Thousands of people gathered for the event at the Ramabai Ambedkar Maidan despite continuous rain in the city.
Baijal, Kejriwal perform yoga
New Delhi: Amid tight security, Lt Governor Anil Baijal and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today performed yoga asanas at Delhi's Connaught Place, on the occasion of the Third International Yoga Day. Others, who joined was Narendra Modi-led government's Ministers - M Venkaiah Naidu and Vijay Goyal. They were also seen performing the asanas here. People of the national capital in large numbers also gathered here early this morning, despite rain, to be part of the event. Elaborate arrangements were made by Delhi Police at Connaught Place and other parts of the city, where a number of events were organised by the Ministry of AYUSH.
According to Delhi Police, to ensure convenience to public and smooth flow of traffic in the Inner and Middle Circle and the radial roads within the Outer Circle CP, it was closed till 1100 hrs under red zone (no vehicle zone). For the Yoga Day, the entry and exit at Rajiv Chowk Metro station remain closed till 0830 hrs this morning, keeping in view the Connaught Place programme. The first Yoga Day was celebrated on June 21, 2015 at Rajpath here, where representatives of various countries had participated, along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Delhi Police celebrates 3rd Int'l Yoga Day at Ramlila Maidan
New Delhi: Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik today performed yoga asanas, along with senior police officials and other personnel early this morning at the historic Ramlila Maidan, as the city police celebrated the third International Yoga Day here. Mr Patnaik said yoga can prove to be very helpful in a policeman's life as it will aid in performing their duties better.
''On the occasion of the third International Yoga Day, we are here to send across our message to our police force to inculcate yoga as part of their routine, which will benefit their health and make them serve people better. ''We will also try to spread the Yoga culture in the department as it will help our personnel to maintain good health and also help them in their family life, as it helps manage stress.'' The Commissioner also said that Yoga is part of the courses undertaken in the Police college. (UNI)
