Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday alleged that Army men stormed inside a mosque in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district and forced Muslims to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

There is no word from the Army about the serious allegations leveled by the former chief minister.

A defence official, however, said the facts are being ascertained.

Mufti took to social media and termed it an "act of provocation”.

“Shocked to hear about army troops from 50 RR storming into a mosque at Pulwama & forcing muslims inside to chant ‘Jai Shree Ram’. Such a move when @AmitShah is here & that too ahead of yatra is simply an act of provocation.,,” she tweeted.

She also requested the Srinagar based General Officer Commanding of Chinar Corps to immediately set up a probe.

“Request @RgGhai to immediately set up a probe,” she added.

The President of Jammu & Kashmir Apni Party Altaf Bukahri said such acts can potentially undo the peaceful atmosphere prevailing in J&K.

“Anguished to learn about an incident taking place in Zadura Pulwama wherein Security Forces have allegedly violated the sanctity of a mosque. The act is highly condemnable and unacceptable to us all,” the former minister Bukahri tweeted. “Urge GoI to order an inquiry into the incident on top priority and the officers' involved in the act be strictly dealt with, as such acts can potentially undo the peaceful atmosphere prevailing in J&K.”
