New Delhi: Major Leetul Gogoi of 53 Rashtriya Rifles Battalion, who recently came to lime light for allegedly using a kashmiri man as human shield in attack from stone pelters, has been awarded COAS Commendation Card. The recognition is for his sustained distinguished service till now in counter-insurgency operations in Jammu & Kashmir, Army sources said. However, a Court of Inquiry regarding April 9 human shield incident is under finalisation.

While awarding the Officer, ''all factors including notable performance of the officer and overall emerging indicators of the Court of Inquiry have been well-considered,'' the army sources said. While the Major had been criticised for his action from varoius quarters, he had received endorsement from many quarters too as he was seen as doing his best under the difficult circumstances to save the life of army officers.
