Assam BJP’s first muslim MLA Aminul Haque joins Congress

Guwahati: Former BJP MLA Aminul Haque Laskar has joined Congress.
 
Laskar joined the Congress party in the presence of Assam Congress in-charge Jitendra Singh and state Congress president Bhupen Bora at Rajib Bhawan on Wednesday.
 
At the same event, former MLA Gopinath Das, senior AIUDF leader Rajiv Ahmed, and Assam Trinamool Congress state secretary Shanti Kumar Singh formally joined the Congress party. All four leaders joined the Congress, along with a good number of workers and supporters.
 
Laskar was a BJP MLA from the Sonai constituency in the Barak Valley in 2016. He was notably the only Muslim MLA elected by the BJP that year. On July 31, 2019, he was elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Assam legislative assembly.
 
Welcoming everyone into the party, said that everyone had joined the Congress party without any conditions.
 
He said the Congress would come to power to free the country from the misrule of the BJP.
