Guwahati: Several educational institutes in Assam have reported COVID-19 cases forcing many schools and colleges to suspend daily classes, which were opened without any restrictions from January 1.

Just a couple of days after several teachers at the prestigious Don Bosco School in Guwahati tested positive for COVID-19, 2 more schools in the city have also reportedly recorded COVID-19 positive cases.

Fearing a second wave of COVID-19, parents in Guwahati are now seeking online mode of exams for their wards.

Many schools have decided to change exam mode to online following requests made by the parents of students.

Schools in Assam have remained closed since March 15 because of the Covid-19 pandemic and students have been attending online classes.

Meanwhile, the students of Cotton University in Guwahati have opposed the offline exams scheduled to be held from February 24 onwards.

The students have criticized the move by the college authorities to hold exams following the recent COVID cases linked to educational institutions.

On Monday, Dibrugarh University’s Dr Bhupen Hazarika Centre for Studies in Performing Arts was declared a containment zone after two female students of the department tested positive for COVID-19. (UNI)
