Baba Amte's grand daughter Dr Sheetal Amte-Karajgi commits suicide

Chandrapur: Granddaughter of late Baba Amte, a noble social worker and CEO of 'Maharogi Seva Samiti' at Warora, Dr Sheetal Amte-Karajgi died by suicide on Monday, said sources.
According to the information received, Sheetal had injected poison at her residence in Anandvan. She was rushed to Warora Sub-District Hospital in Warora in Chandrapur, where she was declared brought dead.
 
However, the reason behind her taking this extreme step could not be ascertained immediately.
Sheetal Amte was in-charge-of the entire Anandvan. She was leading the third generation of Baba Amte. 
 
The Amte family had been embroiled in internal strife for the past few months and their argument often came to the fore.
 
Sheetal was at the heart of all this controversy and the allegation was being levelled from time to time and the news of her suicide has surfaced today. Social circles have been shaken by this shocking incident in Anandvan, which is a source of joy in the lives of lepers. 
 
Sheetal Amte is the daughter of Vikas and Bharati Amte and granddaughter of Baba Amte, a follower of Gandhi who established a rehabilitation home for lepers in Anandwan, in the state of Maharashtra. 
 
Her 'Maharogi Sewa Samiti' was established to run facilities, ranging from health care, rehabilitation, education and agriculture to economic empowerment programmes.
 
Sheetal Amte studied medicine and became a doctor. She later joined her family working at Anandwan to continue her grandfather's vision.
 
In 2016, Amte was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. She was also selected as a United Nations Innovation Ambassador and an advisor to I4P (Innovations for Peace).(UNI)
