Be ready to shell out more than MRP for mineral water in restaurants

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday held that hotels, restaurants can sell bottled water above MRP (Maximum Retail Prices). A division bench of the Apex Court, headed by Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman, passed the interim order after hearing arguments from the petitioner and the respondent. The Apex Court said that hotels aren't bound by Legal Metrology Act and that they are entitled to charge more on account of composite elements of sale and service by providing the ambience. 

The Court's order wasn't out today till this story was filed. But lawyers told that the ambit of the Court order may include not just bottled mineral water but everything packed and pre-packaged such as chips, beverages and also beer, other alcoholic items.(UNI)
