New Delhi: Delhi BJP leader Nupur Sharma today filed a complaint with Delhi Police against Aam Aadmi Party Legislator Alka Lamba, for allegedly obstructing fire fighters from discharging their duties in the Chandni Chowk area, after a massive fire broke out late last night, following which dozens of shops were gutted.

In her complaint submitted to the Delhi Police Commissioner's Office, Ms Sharma attached a video link, alleging that when the fire fighters were trying to douse the flames, which broke out in a shop at Moti Bazar area of Chandni Chowk late last night, Ms Lamba, in spite of being a constitutionally elected member of Delhi Assembly, climbed atop of the crane of the Fire Department truck, which was solely meant for fire fighting and rescue operations.

Her act hindered the operations and delayed the process. "Such irresponsible and callous behaviour of the MLA most definitely calls for a serious investigation," she stated. In her complaint, Ms Sharma also urged the Commissioner that a case under Section 186 of the Indian Penal Code be registered against Ms Lamba and investigation initiated into the case, at the earliest. Meanwhile, AAP dismissed the allegation made against Ms Lamba. In a series of tweets, AAP leader Atishi Marlena said, "inaccurate stories running on media channels about role of MLA @LambaAlka during the fire in Chandni Chowk last night."

She said the MLA had reached the site of the fire at 2300 hrs, as soon as she received a phone call from the market association and was there till 0200 hrs. "At around 0200 hrs, after the blaze was largely put out, Fire Officer Rajesh Pawar asked the MLA to help in managing the crowd. She climbed onto? the Fire Engine platform to address and manage the crowds, and helped control an unruly and difficult situation," Ms Marlena stated. Attacking the BJP, she said, "The Local BJP Councillor made situation unruly by shouting slogans against Ms Lamba, while she was trying to control the crowd.'' She also said the entire footage being shown on TV channels of her is after the fire was put out. (UNI)
