Thane: BJP MP from Palghar, Chintaman Wanga, has exhorted the party activists to work hard to ensure that the party gets absolute majority in the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly polls. Addressing a function organised to felicitate the newly-elected corporators of the party in city’s ward No 21 yesterday, Mr Wanga said the party, which has been in power both at the Centre and in the state, has also bagged most of the seats in the Palghar Zilla Parishad elections.

The victory of the party in other parts of the state in the recent elections indicate that the party fared very well in the civic and local bodies elections and won a majority, he said. Mr Wanga said, "Our aim should be one party rule in the entire district and we should strive for the same. Once we establish ourselves in neighbouring Palghar district, there is no looking back." He told the newly elected corporators that they have an important role to play in meeting the needs of the citizens of the city and the things could be done with the active support of the Ministry at the Centre.

Earlier, three out of four elected corporators from the ward, including Sunesh Joshi, Mrunal Pendse and Pratibha Madvi, were felicitated. BJP city chief Sandeep Lele, National Council member Om Prakash Sharma, Shekar Dhuri and Yeshwant Patil from Vasa, Dinoo Damle from Thane, who spoke on the occasion, paid rich tributes to late Arvind Pendse, general secretary of the party, who was instrumental in the growth of the party in Thane and Palghar districts.
