New Delhi: An economic resolution passed by the BJP National Executive today described Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision for demonetization as ‘’historic’’ and said it had dealt a fatal blow to black money and funding of terrorism. Moving the resolution, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley explained how demonetization had fulfilled the election promise of the BJP and how it was different from other such decisions taken so far.

Briefing media-persons about the morning proceedings, Minister of Commerce and Industry and senior BJP leader Nirmala Sitaraman said the resolution, passed unanimously, praised the 'visionary' leadership of the Mr Modi in steering the country towards growth and prosperity. There was a unanimous feeling at the meeting that demonetization reflected the political will and stamina of the Government to take tough decision and implement it in the interest of the country, Ms Sitaraman said.

Dismissing the Opposition criticism of note ban, the resolution said the situation for common man had eased after the 50-day time sought by the Prime Minister since the announcement of demonetisation on November 8. She said Mr Jaitley spoke about the various schemes for the relief of the common man announced by the Prime Minister on December 31, including those for pregnant women, rural housing and for farmers in view of the coming rabi crop. Stressing that demonetisation had not any adverse affect on the economy, Mr Jaitley said the data received till November end showed that revenue of all states except that of West Bengal had increased.

Mr Modi will be addressing the valedictory session of the National Executive this evening. Party Chief Amit Shah had inaugurated the meeting yesterday focusing on the effect of demonetization and the surgical strikes on the country and also on the strategy for the coming polls in the five states. The party in its political resolution sharpened its attack on the Trinamool Congress for the lawlessness in West Bengal and also lashed out at the Opposition led by the Congress for stalling the business of Parliament in the winter session.

It also condemned the 'red terror' in the Left-ruled Kerala, and and said the saffron party "will intensify democratic protest programs to awaken people to the misrule of the governments in Bengal and Kerala". The resolution praised the leadership of the Prime Minister and his transformative policies and agenda. (UNI)
