New Delhi: Attributing the victory of the BJP in the Municipal election to 'EVM tampering', the Aam Aadmi Party today said it was not 'Modi wave' but 'wave of EVMs'. Talking to reporters here, AAP leader Gopal Rai said,'this is not a Modi wave. This is an EVM wave.' He said that after the results are out, AAP will introspect and chalk out its future strategy. The comments by Rai came even as latest counting trends show the saffron party heading for a huge win in the three MCDs, leading in 120 seats while Aam Aadmi Party and Congress are fighting neck and neck to acquire the second spot.

Arvind Kejriwal led AAP is leading in 28 seats and Congress in 22 seats. The initial trends are major setback for the AAP as it comes close on the heels of the party's defeat in the Rajouri Garden Assembly bypoll in Delhi. For the Congress party it is a dissapointment as it has failed to woo the voters again after it failed to open an account in the Assembly polls in 2015. Reacting on the initial trends, BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi said people has once again shown faith on Prime Minister Narendra Modi by voting for the party. The most important thing is that they have rejected AAP.

Delhi BJP leader Vijender Gupta said this is a referendum on AAP. He also accused Mr Kejriwal of throttling the MCD. Actor turned politician, Ravi Kishan credited Mr Modi for the victory and thanked people of Delhi. Attacking the AAP, Mr Kishan said that when there is difference between words and deeds, the outcome is that people will reject you. Counting of votes for the elections to the three Municipal corporations began this morning amid tight security arrangements. Counting for votes began at 0800 hours at 35 counting centres set up by the state election commission across the city.

The counting of votes for 104 wards of the South Delhi Municipal corporation is being held at 13 counting centres while 16 counting centres have been set up for 103 wards of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation. Election to the Sarai Pipal Thala ward was postponed due to the death of the candidate from the ward. Counting for 63 wards of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation is being held at six counting centres. Election to the Maujpur ward in EDMC has been postponed due to the death of a candidate.

Election to the three MCDs were held on April 23. The exit polls for the elections predicted a sweep for the BJP in the three MCDs, while putting the Aam Aadmi Party at second spot and the Congress in third spot. The Aam Aadmi Party has raised a question mark on the working of the EVMs and has warned that of the results of the elections as per the exit polls, the party would launch an agitation. A total of 54 per cent voters exercised their franchise in the elections to the 270 wards of the MCDs. (UNI)
