BJP workers hurl eggs on ex-Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah's car over ‘Muslim area’ statement. Know what he said

Madkeri: In a massive backlash in Kodagu district over his "Muslim area" statement while commenting on Savarkar-Tipu flex controversy, BJP youth workers allegedly lobbed eggs on senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah's vehicle that was passing at General Thimmaiah Circle in the city on Thursday.

The eggs were allegedly hurled while the Congress leader was returning to Madikeri city after visiting the flood-affected areas in the district.

Earlier in the day, the Hindu activists and BJP protestors not only raised "Go Back Siddaramaiah" slogans, but also waved freedom fighter Veer Savarkar's photos in front of his car.

One of them threw Savarkar's photo in Siddaramaiah's car in protest of his statement questioning the necessity of putting up the Hindu ideologue's flex in a Muslim majority area while commenting on the stabbing incident in Shivamogga.

Reacting to the egg-attack on his car, Siddaramaiah termed it as a cowardly act and alleged that there was no governance in the state. He said that even the Congress workers too have the might to restrict the movement of the chief minister and ministers, if they wished.

"If our workers come out, then it will not be possible for the chief minister and ano minister to move about. Don't our workers have that might? Nobody in Kodagu will be in a position to move about. We have come to this stage doing all these things," he said.

"Whom did they bring? They were the BJP workers, weren't it? They brought them here by hiring them. It is a cowardly act," he added.

"They (BJP) are unable to run the government. There is no governance. There is no government. Absolutely the government is dead. In order to divert the attention of the people, they are indulging in petty acts," he said.

Siddaramaiah alleged that the BJP is indulging in these acts out of frustration of losing elections in Kodagu district to the Congress.

Earlier Siddaramaiah had questioned the putting up of Savarkar's flex in a Muslim area while commenting on the stabbing of Prem Singh in Shivamogga town in connection with Savarkar-Tipu flex controversy.

The BJP has hit back vehemently at Siddaramaiah, claiming that his "jihadi mindset" is far more dangerous than those jihadis who kill innocent people.

BJP's National General Secretary CT Ravi today challenged Siddaramaiah to a public debate on nationalist Savarkar and "tyrant" Tipu Sultan.

"Siddaramaiah's statement is incorrect and unconstitutional. What does he mean by Savarkar's poster should not be installed in Muslim areas? This jihadi mindset has resulted in the partition of many countries. Your (Siddaramaiah) periodic jihadi statements are proving to be more dangerous than the jihadis who kill innocents," he said.

"I challenge Siddaramaiah to a public debate on Savarkar and Tipu," Ravi added. (UNI)
