Madikeri: A 28 year-old Mahout was trampled to death and another worker injured when a tamed elephant attacked them at Dubare Elephant Camp yesterday. Forest officials said today that the deceased was identified as Annu and the injured as Chandra (24). As usual the mahout came to work and bent down to open lock of elephant Rajan’s chain when Karthik, an eight year-old elephant that was tied closeby became violent and attacked both Annu and Chandra.

Annu, who suffered serious injuries on the stomach, was rushed to Siddapura Community Centre where the doctors declared him as brought dead. Chandra has been admitted to K H hospital in Mysuru. A Case has been registered. DFO Suryasen, RFO Nehru and other officials visited the spot. (UNI)
