Salem: The body of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Research Scholar J Muthukrishnan, who had allegedly committed suicide, was brought to his residence in Arisipalayam near here today. The Dalit Reseach Scholar, at JNU's Centre for Historical Studies, had hanged himself from a ceiling fan at his friend's residence in South Delhi's Munirka area on Monday last. The body was kept at his house to enable the public to pay their last respects.
Meanwhile, over 100 activists of Viduthalai Chiruthai Katchi (VCK) resorted to slogan shouting agitation in front of the deceased house demanding various issues. Their demands included to register Muthukrishnan's suicide case as murder case, Compensation of Rs.one crore to his family, Government job to his three sisters and establishing of separate board to safeguard the dalit students in the name of "Rohith Vimala", who is also a PHD scholar and committed suicide at the University of Hyderabad on January 17, 2016. Police had made elaborate security arrangements to prevent any untoward incidents. (UNI)
