BSP blames UP Govt for Saharanpur violence

BSP blames UP Govt for Saharanpur violence
, Wednesday, 24 May 2017 (15:29 IST)
New Delhi: BSP supremo Mayawati today flayed the Uttar Pradesh Government for continuous spree of violence in Sharanpur district and has set up a four-member delegation of party leaders to meet Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to press for a probe into the recurring incidents of violence there.

"BJP and RSS are abusing the official agencies to spread an atmosphere of communal disharmony in the area," Ms Mayawati alleged in a statement here. She nominated a four member delegation -- comprising senior leader and party general secretary Satish Mishra, BJP UP chief Ram Achal Rajbhar and party leaders Lalji Verma and Indrajit Saroj to meet Chief Minister and press for investigation and to book those responsible for violence.

She alleged that these forces have used caste and religious sentiment to come to power in Uttar Pradesh and "now after assuming power they are resorting to caste-based conflicts". The party delegation has been also asked to insist on the Chief Minister Yogi that the victims ought to be adequately compensated and the injured provided with free treatment.

Fresh violence has been reported from the district. In fact, a day after one person was shot dead and several others injured after fresh clash erupted in Chandrapur village of Saharanpur district in western Uttar Pradesh, Mr Adityanath has ordered a high-level probe and also directed top police and civil officials to control the situation.

The incident took place hours after Ms Mayawati visited riot-torn Shabbirpur village on Tuesday. Clashes broke out in Chandrapur and neighbouring villages between the upper-caste people and the Dalits, who were returning from Mayawati's meeting. The BSP chief visited Shabbirpur after Dalits, led by Bheem Army, stormed Jantar Mantar in Delhi and held a demonstration over anti-Dalit violence on May 21. (UNI)
