Information reaching here revealed that the leopard was visiting the localities of the Bhoranj boohla and its adjacent villages not only in the evening hours but also during the daytime.
The prowlers snatched a sheep from the hands of a woman named Neelma Kumari today and killed the animal. The woman raised a cry as a result local people gathered and the leopard left the scene in a huff. The woman was safe, the report added.
Local people have demanded setting up of a cage in the area to nab the prowler that may not become man eater in coming days.A spokesman for the Forests department said today that the department was keeping a watch over the situation and if needed, a cage would be installed in the Bhoranj boohla area of the district.
It’s worth mentioning here that the number of the leopards was on rise in the district and they used to come out for their prey and whatever came in their way, they got that and then disappeared.
The department officers have warned the people not to send their wards outside their houses in the evening hours alone and raise repeated alarms in case they heard the noise of the prowlers(UNI)
