CBI raids 5 places in Bhopal in Vyapam scam cases
, Saturday, 5 November 2016 (12:57 IST)
New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) today conducted searches in the on-going investigation of a case related to Vyapam at five locations in Bhopal, including a Medical College, Bairagarh, residences of Managing Director and Administrative Officer of the said Medical College. Incriminating documents/materials recovered during searches are being scrutinized.

Further, cash, jewellery and other valuable assets worth Rs two crore (approx) have also been found during searches. The CBI registered the case on the orders of Supreme Court and took over the investigation of FIR No. 271/2014 registered earlier at Police Station, Jhansi Road, Gwalior. It was alleged that a student of MBBS Course of PMT, 2010 in a College at Gwalior, in conspiracy with others appeared again in PMT 2011, and during counselling, got allotted a Government quota seat in a Medical College, Bhopal. Later, with the connivance of said private college authorities, he allegedly vacated the seat on the last day of admission schedule after getting huge amount of money, so that, the said seat could be filled by the College Authorities in a non-transparent manner and could be allotted to some ineligible candidate by-passing the merit list.

There were 63 government quota seats in the said college which were to be filled through PMT examination conducted by state government in the year 2011. It was further alleged that of these 63 government quota seats allotted to various candidates on the basis of merit by DME, 47 have been shown vacated by the college authorities just before the cut-off date i.e. 30th September, 2011 and these 47 seats were filled not through the counselling conducted by DME but by the College Management itself. Further investigation is continuing. (UNI)
