Mumbai: A police complaint was today filed against actor Om Puri for allegedly insulting the Uri martyrs (Army jawans) with his remark during a TV debate. The complaint was filed at the Andheri Police station in north-west Mumbai by a social activist. Sixty five-year-old Puri attended a debate on a national news channel during which he firmly backed the artists from the other side of the border and said he would continue to work with them. As the anchor quizzed the veteran actor on his thoughts on continuous proxy war on the part of Pakistan, he retorted, ''Ask the government to cancel their visas.'' To a question on the slain jawan during the Baramulla attack, Puri remarked, ''who had asked him to join Army?''

Om Puri is one of India's greatest actors. Over the years, he has delivered some of the best performances Indian cinema has ever seen. From Aakrosh to Sadgati, Ardh Satya to Dharavi, and more recently, Maachis to Tamas, the veteran actor has stood tall over his contemporaries in Indian cinema simply on the basis of his acting abilities and not tact or politics. Eighteen soldiers were killed in a terror attack on an Army Camp at Uri in Kashmir recently. (UNI)
