Panaji: The Congress on Sunday demanded that the drug nexus operating from Mundra port be investigated by a commission comprising two sitting Supreme Court judges.

Addressing a press conference here, Congress National Spokesperson Shama Mohamed said, "The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence on September 15 seized nearly 3,000 kg of heroin branded as Selicum Talcum Powder from Gujarat's Mundra port."

"The haul was estimated to be of Rs 21,000 crore in the international market. It was smuggled into India from Afghanistan which is now ruled by a terrorist organisation."

She said that the entry was not possible without political patronage.

"Where are the NCB, IB, CBI and customs department when such an organised drug syndicate is operating?," she asked.

Mohamed also questioned why was not Mundra port investigated.

"Is it because of the proximity with the owner of the port with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi," she asked.

"A serious point of concern is that these drugs have been sourced from Afghanistan. The money earned on the illegal sale of these drugs can be used against India. If this money makes its way back to the Taliban, it can take it destabilise our country by funding separatists and terrorist activities within India," she said.

They alleged that the government had maintained pin drop silence on the entire incident. (UNI)
