Ayodhya (UP): A criminal was killed, and two others wanted for making a life-threatening attack on a female head constable were injured in an encounter with the Special Task Force (STF) and Ayodhya police in which a cop was also injured, a senior police officer said here on Friday.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Raj Karan Nayyar on the intervening nights of August 29 and August 30, some miscreants made a life-threatening attack on the female head constable on board the Saryu Express.

He said, "The incident took place when the constable was going for Sawan duty. A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was lodged at the Government Railway Police (GRP) police station and launched a hunt for the criminals."

The SSP said on the basis of technical and human inputs, one of the accused was identified as Aneesh Khan, a resident of Haiderganj. "Acting on the information, the STF and Ayodhya police attempted to arrest the accused in the Inayat Nagar area, during which Aneesh Khan and two others, Azad and Vishambhar Dayal Dubey, opened fire on the police party," he said.

He said in retaliatory firing, while Azad and Vishambhar Dayal were arrested after sustaining bullet injuries in the legs, Aneesh Khan managed to escape from the spot.

"After this, the entire area was cordoned off in search of Aneesh Khan and he was finally spotted in the Poor Kalandar area," he said.

Nayyar said when challenged by the police to surrender, Aneesh opened fire on the police party and was injured in the retaliatory firing. "He was taken to the district hospital, where he died during treatment. Station House Officer of Poora Kalandar police station Ratan Sharma was also injured in the encounter and is being treated at the district hospital," he said.

He said the two other accused have admitted committing the crime with Aneesh Khan. Notably, the STF had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh each for the arrest of the accused. (UNI)
