Tension prevails in Kashmir post Sabzar death, Curfew imposed

Srinagar: Curfew has been imposed in areas falling under seven police stations in Srinagar and majority towns in the Kashmir Valley, where separatists had called for two-day strike from today in protest against the killing of eight militants, including Sabzar Bhat, a top Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander. Killing of Sabzar, successor of Burhan Wani who was killed in July last year, evoked massive protests across the Valley, particularly in South Kashmir and Srinagar.

Two HM militants were killed in Tral in Pulwama while six infiltrators were gunned down near Line of Control (LoC) in Rampur sector in Uri yesterday. District Magistrate, Srinagar, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone said that in view of the prevailing law and order situation, strict restrictions have been imposed within the territorial jurisdiction of seven police stations of Srinagar district, including Khanyar, Nowhatta, Safakadal, MR Gunj, Rainawari, Kralkhud, Maisuma, with effect from this morning till further orders.

However, admit cards of the candidates appearing for Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) & All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) examinations scheduled today shall be treated as curfew passes on the day. The identity cards of the invigilators deployed for supervising the examinations would also be treated as curfew passes. It is further ordered that all the colleges and higher secondary schools in Srinagar will also remain closed tomorrow. (UNI)
