New Delhi: Delhi government ordered the termination of the services of the doctor of Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital (GTBH) and sought an explanation over the death of a patient who was denied admission.

The show cause notice issued by the health department of the Delhi government asked the medical director of GTB hospital to immediately ‘terminate’ the services of the senior resident doctor who was on duty when admission to the injured man was denied.

Referring to media reports that a man died due to denial of treatment at four government hospitals: Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital (GTBH), Lok Kalyan Hospital (LKH), Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital (JPCH), and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RMLH), the health department said, “The entire episode shows a complete “lack of empathy and professionalism” among the medical officers involved as well as a lack of supervision on the part of the concerned medical officers.

The 47-year-old man sustained injuries after jumping from a PCR van while being taken to the police station for an alleged sexual assault case in Northeast Delhi on the night of January 2. He was taken from one hospital to another but denied treatment at all four hospitals. Eventually, he succumbed to his injuries.
