Delhi Police hunts down Salem's sharp shooter in capital

New Delhi: The Delhi Police today nabbed a sharp shooter associated with the underworld don Abu Salem here, who was recently wanted in a case of shooting at his wife. The 35-year-old Jaan Usman alias Usman Khan alias Reenu was arrested last night from the east district's Pandav Nagar area upon a trap laid by the special team of Delhi Police. He was there to meet his associate, the police added. 

In response to the information received on June 15 by the East District Police about Jaan Usman, who was to arrive at Pandav Nagar area to meet his associate, a special team led by Inspector Vinay Yadav including Sub-Inspectors Arun Sindhu, KK Sharma, Astt Sub-Inspectors Sudesh Pal Rana, Satbir, Bakshish, Head Constables Lalit Dixit, Saleem and Rajeshwar under supervison of YK Tyagi Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) laid a trap near Sanjay Jheel Park in the area based on a tip off from the informer. 

The police nabbed Khan in a swift operation, also recovering one improvised pistol along with two live cartridges from his possession. Earlier, a case of attempt to murder was registered against him at Janak Puri Police Station upon a statement given by his wife in June last year, following which the shooter escaped to Nepal to evade arrest. There, he stayed with his friend Chakre Milan, the police said. 

Khan was earlier involved in circulating fake currency, extorting 'protection money from Bollywood celebrities and several murder cases in Delhi and Mumbai, informed the police. During the interrogation, he revealed that he took to crime upon his visit to Mumbai in 1996 when he met ''Waseem, a sharp shooter of Abu Salem gang." He also revealed that Waseem, who was accused of killing T- Series owner Gulshan Kumar, had introduced him to Abu Salem. Usman was also declared a proclaimed offender earlier and was arrested in 2015, the police said. 

He also disclosed that last year he accompanied his associates to Mumbai and had threatened a famous film Director/Choreographer and his brother-in-law on a dispute (dispute with one leading film producer) that triggered after a hit movie in 2015. (UNI)
