New Delhi: Schools in the national capital are going to open in a "phased manner" from September 1, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced. Schools will be held in "blended mode" with both physical and online classes.

The decision was taken following a report by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).

Classes for 9th to 12th standard will start from September 1, and for standards 6th to 8th, the classes will start from September 8.

"Almost 98 percent of teachers and staff in government schools have received at least one dose of vaccine, and the second dose will be administered soon. Private schools have also said a large number of staff has been vaccinated," Sisodia said.

He said Delhi government conducted camps for government school teachers, which will continue.

He said both online and physical classes will be held.

"Blended mode will be used, and both physical and online classes will be held. Standard operative procedure will be provided by the Delhi government. Social distancing protocols will also be set by schools," he said.

Schools in the national capital were shut in March 2020 after a lockdown was announced to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.

Delhi government had allowed physical classes only for Classes 9-12 in January this year, but the classes were suspended again following the surge in cases during the second wave. (UNI)
