New Delhi: Hours after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami met the agitating farmers of his state at Jantar Mantar here, the latter today decided to call off their protest till May 25 following his assurance to help them.

Earlier this morning, the Chief Minister have urged the farmers to end their protest and assured that all demands put forward by them would be discussed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Ayyakanu, who is heading the protest said that he wanted immediate loan waiver of farmers like the newly formed BJP Government of Uttar Pradesh has done.

Meanwhile, he told reporters that they have called off their strike till May 25 due to the Chief Minister's assurance. If our demands are not fulfilled then we will again start protesting after May 25.

To highlight their woes, the farmers yesterday attempted to drink urine. However, the police reached on time and dissuaded them to give up the idea to do so. These comes after their 'nude' and 'saree' protest. The farmers have been protesting at Jantar Mantar here since more than a month demanding a drought relief package of Rs 40,000-crore from the Centre, farm loan waiver and setting up of Cauvery Management Board. (UNI)
