Demonetised currency around Rs 1 crore seized in Nashik

Nashik: Ahmednagar police confiscated demonetised currency worth Rs 99,98,500 from a merchant in the city today. The police also arrested the merchant Sanjay Namdeo Shelar (48). Police said that they received information about demonetised currency being kept at the house of the vegetable trader Shelar.

The Tophkhana police station raided his house in Namdeo Krupa Bungalow, Ahmednagar and confiscated currency notes of Rs 1000 denomination and Rs 500 denomination, which were kept in a bag. Rs 60,26,000 in Rs 1000 denomination and Rs 39,72,500 in Rs 500 denomination totaling Rs 99,98,500 was found in the bag. Senior police inspector N J Wakhare, who is the investigating officer said that this was the largest amount of seized demonetized currency since the currency was demonetized.Police informed the incident to Income tax department.
