EC orders re-poll in 48 polling booths in Punjab on Feb 9

Chandigarh: The Election Commission today ordered a re-poll in 48 polling booths for Punjab State Assembly on February 9, due to snag in EVMs on February 4. Official spokesperson of EC informed 16 polling stations in Amritsar Parliamentary constituency, 12 polling stations in Majitha Assembly constituency, One each in Moga and Sardulgarh, 9 each in Muktsar and Sangrur would undergo re-poll on February 9.

Giving further details he said Government Elementary School Mehandipur, Government Elementary School Johal, Government Senior Secondary School Wadala Veeram, Janj Ghar, Rori, FGC Road Majitha, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, Majitha (Left Wing), Kesra Devi Arya Girl School, Majitha, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, Majitha (Right Wing), Baba Hardyal Singh Memorial , Child Learn School, Galowali Kullian, Government Elementary School,Marari Kalan, Government Elementary School, Gujjarpura, Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Nag Kalan, Government Elementary School, Kotla Saida, Government Elementary School, Fatubheela, Government Elementary School, Rupowali Kalan, Government Elementary School, Manga Sarai, Elementary School, Panwa would undergo re-poll in Amritsar Parliamentary Constituency.

Giving details on Assembly Polling Station, the spokesman said that Government Elementary School Johal, Government Senior Secondary School Janj Ghar, Rori, EGC Road Majitha, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, Majitha (Left Wing), Kesra Devi Arya Girl School, Majitha, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, Majitha (Right Wing), Government Elementary School, Marai Kalan (53), Government Elementary School, Marari Kalan (62), Government Elementary School, Haria, Govt. Elementary School, Kotla Saida, Government Elementary School, Hride Ram, Government Elementary School, Babowal and Government Elementary School, Panwa would undergo re-poll for Majitha Assembly Constituency.

Giving Details of Moga Polling Station where re-poll has been ordered, the spokesperson said that Government Primary School, Mohalla Sodhia, Moga would undergo re-poll. In Muktsar Assembly Constituency Government Elementary School, Kaniawali (Right Wing), Government Elementary School, Jandoke (Right Wing), Government Elementary School, Jandoke (Left wing) and Government Elementary School, Wattu, Government Elementary School, Virvian Wali @Kapian Wali (Right Wing), Government Elementary School Burhagujjar (Left Wing), Government Elementary School, Bala Madahar, Government Primary School (Near Nagar Panchayat Office) Bariwala (Left Side) and YS Public School, Thandewala would under go re-poll.

In Sardulgarh Assembly Constituency Korewala Polling Station would undergo re-poll. Giving details on nine polling stations under Sangrur Assembly Constituency, the spokesperson said that Improvement Trust (Old) Kaula Park (N) Sangrur, Government Ranbir College, Sangrur, GPS Ghabdan, Government Elementary School, Santokhpura, Government Elementary School, Nandgarh (S), Government Elementary School, Gehlan, Government Elementary School, Dialgarh, Government Elementary School, Aloarkh and GSSS Nidampur would under re-poll. VK Singh, Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab said all the concerned Returning Officers and Observers have been instructed to act accordingly.

The political parties and the contesting candidates have also been intimated about the re-poll as per the directions of Election Commission of India. He said that the polling day had been fixed on February 9, 2017 and the polling hours would be from 0800 hrs to 1700 hrs. Mr Singh also said that necessary arrangements had been made and election material, EVMs, Security and poll staff in adequate numbers were deputed for this task. (UNI)
