New Delhi: The Election Commission today rejected allegations of BSP chief Mayawati that there was tampering with EVM machines in just concluded Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh. Replying to BSP's allegations of manipulation of EVMs, the Election Commission said 'no merit' was found in the complaint of the party.

The Commission has listed the series of measures taken to ensure that EVMs is foolproof. The Poll Panel in its letter to BSP has quoted court orders endorsing EVMs use and said the demands by BSP are legally not tenable.

The Election Commission has firm conviction and complete satisfaction that EVMs cannot be tampered with. The Commission is thus fully satisfied with the tamper proof functioning of the ECI-EVMs, the letter said.

In the letter to the poll panel, the BSP had said, 'It is to bring to your notice that during the entire process of UP and Uttarakhand Elections several persons had been informing the party that grave manipulations have been done in the voting machines by experts of technology and software field hired by BJP in such manner that particular number of votes as desired by BJP will get automatically transferred to BJP candidates in every constituency even though they have actually been polled in favour of BSP or other political parties.'
