Kolkata: Sharply reacting to the exclusion of the proposed tableau of the West Bengal Government from the ensuing Republic Day parade, the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) on Monday described it as "absolutely unpardonable".

"Ridiculous how the @BJP4India led Central Government repeatedly & systematically INSULTS our history, culture and pride," the party tweeted.

"By rejecting Netaji's tableau, they have once again laid bare their hypocrisy," it said.

On Sunday Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee dashed off a letter to the Centre, expressing her shock for the decision.

"I have been profoundly shocked and hurt by the decision of the government of India to abruptly exclude the proposed tableau of the government of West Bengal from the ensuing Republic Day parade. It is even more baffling for us that the tableau has been rejected without assigning any reasons or jurisdiction," she said.

"I may like to inform you that all the people of West Bengal are deeply pained by this attitude of the Central government. Bengal was at the forefront of the freedom struggle and has paid the heaviest price for the Independence through partition and uprooting millions of people,” she added.

"The exclusion of the tableau is tantamount to belittling and undermining the freedom fighters," Banerjee stated. (UNI)
