New Delhi: The Delhi traffic police on Thursday said that National Highway 24, the route connecting Delhi with Ghaziabad has been opened.

Delhi-Noida link road blocked by Bharatiya Kisan Union (Bhanu) since December 1 was also reopened on Wednesday night after the union called off its protest at Chilla border.

BKU (Bhanu) president Thakur Bhanu Pratap Singh said that he was deeply pained by whatever happened during the tractor rally in Delhi on Republic Day.

However, several other borders of the national capital with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh continued to remain closed for vehicular movement due to the ongoing agitation.

Meanwhile, the Centre has said that it will keep its communication channels with farm unions open and its offer to put the three legislation in temporary suspension for 18 months will stay.

On January 26, hundreds of protestors managed to enter the Red Fort breaching police security and planted a religious and farm union flag on the pole where Tri-Colour is hoisted on Independence Day. The flag was later removed and the area cleared by the police.

The violence began at Singhu and Tikri border, when the protestors, who were massed in thousands, broke the police barricades before the scheduled time, to take out the tractor parade.

Police had to resort to lathi charge and fire tear gas shells to stop the rally, but failed as they were outnumbered. The cordon was broken at Ghazipur border as well.

At least one person died while scores were injured. (UNI)
