New Delhi: A Delhi University assistant professor (ad-hoc) has been arrested for allegedly hatching conspiracy to murder his wife in North Delhi’s West Sant Nagar area, police said on Wednesday.

The police said the accused, identified as Virender Kumar, married the deceased Pinki in February this year. Now he wanted to get rid of his wife following which he gave contract to kill her to two men, Rakesh and Govind Kumar. The plan of murder was hatched by Virender and his nephew Govind, said Sagar Singh Kalsi, DCP, North Delhi.

Virender told police that he married Pinky in February this year. During the marriage ceremony family members had given a cheque of Rs 5 Lakh as marriage gift Tilak. The cheque bounced on account of insufficient funds. He felt cheated. In August, Pinky arrived at Burari and she asked Rakesh to get out of his house. She was not allowing any of the family members of Virender to enter the house. Around 15-20 days ago Virender hatched conspiracy to kill his wife with Rakesh and his nephew Govind. As per plan Rakesh was to surrender before police and Virender should take care of family and also get him out of jail, said Kalsi.

According to police, on Monday at around 7 pm, police reached 100 Feet Road, near Pepsi Road in Burari, where cops noticed a man, identified as Rakesh (31) in a state of nervousness. When cops approached him and asked him the reason for being in such a situation, Rakesh voluntarily confessed that he had murdered his sister-in-law, Pinki. After his confession, cops took him to the Police Station and a DD entry was lodged regarding this case. The police took suo-moto cognizance and started a probe into the matter, said Kalsi.

Police reached the spot on the Fourth Floor of the building at West Sant Nagar in Burari where a woman’s dead body, who was identified as Pinki, was found lying on her bed.

A case was registered on Monday under 302 IPC and Rakesh was arrested.

The police team came into action and conducted a technical investigation and deployed their secret informers to get any clue about the suspect. During the further investigation, the police unfolded the conspiracy behind murder. All three accused Rakesh, Virender and Govind, have been arrested.

During interrogation, Rakesh was repeatedly changing his version and improving his previous versions every time. Thereafter, police took technical aid and around 300 CCTVs were scanned to track his route. The call detail record was also obtained. Thereafter, he confessed that he along with Virender and Govind had hatched a conspiracy to kill Pinky around a fortnight ago, said police. (UNI)
