Flood situation turns critical in Bihar, Army asked to stand by

Patna: Army was asked to stand by as turbulent Ganga,Sone and Punpun rivers inundated vast tracts in the riverine areas of Patna, Bholpur, Begusarai, Munger, Bhagalpur and Vaishali districts rendering hundreds and thousands of people homeless. State Principal Secretary (Disaster Management) Vyasji told UNI here that Air Force authorities have also been requested to remain in full preparedness for air dropping of food packets and relief materials.

Besides Five teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Chennai were being airlifted state for assisting the district authorities in relief and rescue operations. Mr Vyasji said people living in the riverine areas of Danapur Maner in Patna district and Raghopur in Viashali Balia and Sahebpur Kalam in Begusarai district have been asked to move to safer places as Ganga threatened to overtop its highest flood level of 50.27 metres by this evening at Gandhighat in Patna district. The river was presently flowing 1.25 metre above the danger level and it continued to be in high spate. (UNI)
