Srinagar: Heavy vehicles will ply from Srinagar to Jammu only on the national highway, linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country today to avoid any traffic jam or accident. However, light vehicles will ply from both ways, a traffic police official told UNI. He said heavy vehicles, including empty oil tankers and trucks and those carrying fruits left different parts of the Kashmir valley for Jammu this morning.

However, no heavy vehicle will be allowed from Jammu. Thousands of light vehicles, including those carrying passengers, left Srinagar and Jammu this morning. However, passengers and truckers alleged that due to slippery road conditions at Patnitop and damaged road condition between Ramban and Ramsu, there was massive traffic jams yesterday. They said due to slippery road condition after water and snow gets frozen in the morning and later in the evening, vehicles are moving in a very slow speed at several places, particularly in Patnitop area, resulting in traffic jam.

Traffic was also disrupted for several hours between Ramban and Ramsu after a truck developed some technical problem in the area where only one vehicle could pass due to damage caused to road by landslides. However, the truck was later taken out from the area and traffic resumed yesterday, they said. Meanwhile, historic Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region remained closed due to very heavy snowfall. The road is being seen alternative to Srinagar-Jammu national highway. (UNI)
