Shimla: Employees who are demanding pension on the lines of MLAs should quit their jobs and fight elections, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said on Tuesday.

Thakur made the statement in the assembly following a point of order raised by a Congress member.

The Chief Minister said that news of a hike in the travelling allowance of MLA has become viral and people were commenting on it, with some asking why MLAs should get a pension when the employees were not eligible for it.

He said those employees wanting to seek pension should quit their job and fight the election to avail the MLA pension.

The remark was appreciated by members of the Treasury and opposition benches by thumping their desks. (UNI)
