Hindu Janjagruti Samiti (HJS) today demanded the Central government immediately stop funding what it claimed "lakhs of rupees annually" to maintain the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar of Maharashtra.

The organisation said the government should instead start funding the temple of Chhatrapatii Shivaji Maharaj at Sindhudurg fort, HJS claimed the temps was now getting only Rs 250 per month. In a press release, HJS state coordinator Sunil Ghanwat said the Central Government's Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) spends lakhs of rupees annually on the upkeep of Aurangzeb's Tomb in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar.

It claimed ASI had spent a total of Rs 6.50 lakh from 2021 to 2023 on Aurangzeb's tomb, but at the same time Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's temple at Sindhudurg Fort, which was the only temple of the Maharaj in the state, received a mere Rs 250 per month as government aid."This stark disparity was outrageous and unacceptable," the HJS said.

Ghanwat demanded an immediate halt to financial aid for Aurangzeb's tomb.He appealed to the government to act swiftly to uphold Maharashtra's heritage and pride and warned the failure would trigger a strong protest from the Hindu community.(UNI)<>
