Mumbai: Renowned Hindustani vocalist Kishori Amonkar died here at her central Mumbai residence last night following a brief illness. She was 85. The classical exponent started professional classical singing at a very young age and continued to enthrall the audience for more than half a century.
Amonkar was an innovative exponent of Jaipur Gharana. She received classical singing lessons from her mother Mogubai Kurdikar. A recipient of Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan, Amonkar was married to a school teacher Rravindra, who died in 1992. The couple had two sons. (UNI)
