Setback for Pak as International court of Justice stays execution of Jadhav

Setback for Pak as International court of Justice stays execution of Jadhav
, Wednesday, 10 May 2017 (15:15 IST)
New Delhi: The International Court of Justice in a late night development stayed the execution of retired Indian naval officer Kulbhushan Jadhav who has been awarded death sentence by a Pakistan military court. The ICJ has communicated to the government of Pakistan that the military court's order will not be implemented until a final decision on an application filed by India was taken.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted that she had told Jadhav's mother about the ICJ decision. Jadhav had been arrested by Pakistani agencies last year and he was awarded death sentence on charges of espionage and subversion. India has denied all these charges and told ICJ that the military court's action against Jadhav was violative of the Vienna Convention and Human Rights. (UNI)
